We are delighted to announce the return of former Robin Luke Cox on a permanent deal from Quorn AFC.
The 24-year-old left-footed centre half becomes the 4th signing of the Ryan Hindley era and adds further quality and depth to our backline.
Cox, who was born and raised in Ilkeston, was scouted by Derby County at u12 level. He then joined Sheffield Wednesday after a strong spell with the Rams' academy, where he signed his first professional contract.
It was after leaving the Owls where he ventured into non-league football, having spells with the likes of Redditch and Long Eaton United, where he was a key cog in the latter's play-off success in 2022/23. He then also spent time here at the Microlise New Manor Ground, and at Mickleover Sports before joining Quorn in the 2025/26 campaign.
We spoke to Assistant Manager James Jepson to get his thoughts on the acquisition, and here is what he had to say:
"Luke is a player this club knows well, having represented the Robins before. He lives locally and understands exactly what it means to wear this badge.
"When we spoke to him, there was no hesitation. We need good people who care about this football club, are willing to give everything and are prepared to fight for the badge.
"Signing from a club in our league, Luke knows the level required and understands the expectations here."
Cox is available for selection on Saturday and will be in contention for a place in the team.
Everyone at Ilkeston Town would like to take this opportunity to wish Luke all the best during his time with the club.
