Dylan Reason’s first goal of the season proved to be the difference as we defeated Hyde United 1-0 at the Microlise New Manor Ground in the NPL Premier Division.
A competitive first half saw the sides’ go in level, with neither being able to find the breakthrough.
However, a towering header from Dylan Reason was enough to secure all three points, and to carry on the strong start under Ryan Hindley.
Both teams’ saw half chances come and go within the first ten minutes, as Anthony Dwyer sliced an effort wide, before Callum Spooner fired wide of the mark.
Sam Newell had a sight of goal after 17 minutes after he received the ball on the edge of the Hyde box, although he could only strike narrowly over the bar.
The remainder of the half saw very little in the way of clear-cut chances, in what was proving to be a very tightly contested match.
Newell had another chance immediately after the restart but hit his effort straight into the palms of Jordan Eastham.
The deadlock was broken by Reason after 53 minutes, as he rose highest to head past Eastham, and give the Robins a crucial advantage.
Jay Glover had his first attacking involvement in an Ilkeston shirt with 68 minutes played, as he curled a free kick into the hands of Eastham.
The Tigers had a few half chances as they looked to find a route back into the contest but failed to trouble Jason Alexander.
L’Varn Brandy did receive a red card after 87 minutes, however the Robins held firm to preserve their narrow lead.
It’s Derbyshire Senior Cup action on the agenda next, as we make the short journey to Northeast Derbyshire to face Clay Cross FC, (Wednesday, 4th November).
