Two clinical finishes were the difference as we fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to Guiseley in the Northern Premier League Premier Division. A sublime strike gave the visitors the initiative at the break, before the visitors sealed the deal midway through the second half. The first key opening of the contest fell to the Robins through Pharrell Johnson after eight minutes, who latched onto a loose ball before firing narrowly wide of the target. Will Grewal-Pollard had his first involvement of the evening a few minutes later, who hit an effort just over the crossbar after L'varn Brandy's cross was headed into his path. The deadlock was broken by Guiseley after 21 minutes through Amir Berchil, whose superb long-range effort was adjudged to have crossed the line following deliberation between the referee and the linesman. Chances were very limited in the opening period after the goal, with Ilkeston unable to create any clear-cut chances. Sam Wilson produced a sensational stop to ensure the deficit remained just one goal, as he rushed off his line to deny Kallan Murphy after 56 minutes. Guiseley however did find their second 20 minutes from time, as Jordan Thewlis poked past Wilson from a pinpoint set-piece delivery. Frankie Sinfield very nearly added a third, after he headed onto the post from a well-taken free kick. The Robins were unable to muster a response in the closing stages and fell to defeat against the Lions. We return to action at the Microlise New Manor Ground again on Saturday, as we host Redcar Athletic in league action, (3pm KO). Written By Nathan Waller
