A ruthless display from Redcar United meant we fell to a heavy 5-0 home defeat in the Northern Premier League Premier Division. Going in just one behind at the break meant that the Robins still had a chance of getting something from the contest, but four second half goals meant that it would be disappointment on Ryan Hindley’s return to the Microlise New Manor Ground. Jason Alexander was called into action on his Ilkeston debut after just a few minutes, as he denied a Connor Smith headed effort from close range. The Steelmen went close through Oscar Fletcher after 11 minutes, as he somehow got a shot off under pressure from Jesse Omoregbee, which clattered off the upright. The Robins had a chance on the break five minutes later, as Terry Hawkridge flashed a smart ball across to Ashley Hunter, whose cross was cleared. Redcar broke the deadlock after 34 minutes, as Adam Boyes turned in a well-placed cross from Bradley Fewster. The advantage was doubled five minutes into the second period, as Fletcher cut in from out wide and wrapped a powerful effort into the corner. A third was added 13 minutes later as Fewster struck an effort from the edge of the box which took a deflection and looped over Alexander. Three became four just a minute later, as Boyes grabbed his second of the afternoon after poking a shot past an onrushing Alexander. Pharrell Johnson had the best chance to grab a consolation for the Robins after 74 minutes, as his shot from the edge of the box was well saved by Josh Mazfari. Mazfari then produced two important saves moments later, firstly to deny Tom Jennings from close range, before he denied Sonnie Davis on the follow up. The scoring was completed from the penalty spot in injury time, with Fletcher dispatching his strike into the corner. A response is required on Tuesday night as we travel to face Gainsborough at the Kal Group Stadium in league action, (7.45 KO).
